There is an ever growing number of people who add their wishlists to their weblogs, homepages or whatever they publizise on the internet. Normally I wouldn't think of buying somebody I don't know something from their wishlist, but twice I have done it. It was more or less a "fun thing" to do. Both times I did, actually happened like 3 days apart. And I really regret both times I did it.
1. Because neither of these people even acknowledged that they did receive what I bought of their wishlists. Not that I was expecting a grand thank you note, but some sort of acknowledgement either via mail or their weblogs would have been nice. Just something to let me know that they actually got it. - Not that I distrust Amazon, I have never had problems with them, but still .....
2. Because both times these people made it sound like they could really "need" something, which led me to the wrongful conclusion that they are short of money or at least having a tough time to make ends meet. - Only to find out that both people are obviously a lot better off than I am, according to what I read in their weblogs about what they have bought shortly after my "donation".
3. Because you feel like an absolute idiot if you think you are doing something nice, even fun, out of the goodness stupidity of your heart only to discover that these people are probably laughing their asses off behind your back.
So I have decided that I am never going to do that again, and also that I find it completely despickable if people publicise their wishlists and try to solicit "gifts" because they are moving, or their birthday is coming up, somebody they know is terminably ill or they are simply having a bad hair day or any other reason.
I needed to vent that. And now I will go to bed to the sound of the birds singing outside. All birds rise, I am leaving.
Oops, I feel somewhat ashamed *blush* ;-) I added a whishlist to my blog simply as an replacement to those rather annoying advertisements (or "hints") by blogscout/amazon. I would have deleted it completely - but then my host earns money by it. I don't expect anyone to actually buy something from this list for me.
Still, I think it's nice to give a present to someone. To show that you like them. So if you've done that, you should not feel bad about it. People who don't thank you for that should be ashamed.
