Watched that movie last night. Although it has some loose ends and I think some characters are not well developed, I still think it's good movie. I liked it. And the scenery is extraordinary. No Hollywood fake scenery. They actually filmed in Newfoundland - it reminds me a lot of Scandinavia.
This ain't a movie you can tell a lot about, you have to see it. No action movie, no extensive romance or such. It's a quiet movie, but nevertheless dishing out a bit of all genres. Apple has a preview: The Shipping News

Sitting here, sipping my second Martini.
Just finished watching a movie: "The Hours"
Don't feel like talking about it, just want to think about it. If you get a chance: Watch it. It's definitely worth it.
Another day has passed. One day closer to the end. One day farther from "true happiness".
When was the last time I sat by myself, watching a movie, drinking a martini, listening to music, dancing by myself. If I was 15 years younger (or so) I would have worn a "cocktail-dress" to honor the occasion. Never mind I never possessed one. I would have done some major styling, make-up, hair-do something .... Nowdays I am content to push my hair back in a bun. My hair has gotten short. It used to be very long and beautiful. I was pretty, once. ... (New York State of Mind - Oleta Adams playing in the back)
Times are changing. The Hours (pun intended) have come in between.

Went to see Mambo Italiano today with a friend. Although it says: "Mambo Italiano is hysterically funny and deeply moving.", under the provided link, I can not say it was "hysterically funny", but it was funny. I am still not getting the "deeply moving" part. I must have missed that by watching the man next to me eat six - yes you saw that right - SIX icicles.
I did not think anything when he ate the first one, I still didn't think anything strange when he ate the second one, however I did wonder a bit when he started eating the third. When he started unwrapping the fourth one I must admit I was a bit curious and looked sideways only to reassure myself it was really icicles and that indeed he ate them himself and not pass them to somebody next to him. I was mildly confused when this stick-thin person started nibbling away at the fifth, and I was truly envious he could inhale that much sugar and stay thin, when he downed the sixth, while at the same time I was looking around to find the hidden camera, as this could only be a prank of some sort. To my amazement: no hidden camera, this man was for real. But that doesn't really have anything to do with the movie, while it still serves as nice anecdote.
Generally I'd say it's an entertaining movie on the light side, I did not detect a "message" or anything life-changing or mind-boggling. I liked it. It did all I wanted it to do. I was entertained, I laughed and I had a great time. Movies don't always have to have a message or be works of great artistic value. Some movies are only for entertainment and if they serve that purpose well: that's good enough for me. And Mambo Italiano was.

in our home. we had a nice breakfast that the ghost prepared. boiled eggs, hot rolls fresh from the oven, french cheese, selfmade jam (sponsored by mom) and freshly squeezed oranges.
now the ghost is watching an old swedish silent movie and I am browsing amazon. I ordered "le fabuleux destine d'Amélie Poulain" one of my favorite movies (in english: Amélie ). I've seen it already but I really need to have it so I can watch it over and over again.
It's quiet, the cats are all asleep, the tv of course is silent, due to the silent movie, outside the wind is blowing around the corners and I decided to download Adobes Creative Suite trial version today and see if I like it. I love a quiet Sunday.
